Northcentral began as an alternative to on-campus learning, allowing students to study at their own pace and fit further education in around family and work commitments.

A private, for-profit institution, they offer their students Doctoral level degrees (among others) with absolutely no residency requirement. This means that a student does not need to complete any part of their degree on-campus – a hurdle that many adult and distance-learners find difficult to jump.
