Accelerated Online PhD
What makes these programs accelerated? Many have the false notion that there are fewer requirements involved with an accelerated program. That is simply not the case, however. Accelerated programs have the same requirements as their traditional counterparts. The main difference is that online universities do not adhere to a traditional academic calendar. Courses last just six to ten weeks as opposed to the normal 16 weeks. This allows for students to complete all of their coursework in a fraction of the time.
The curriculum is the only part of the program that is accelerated. The dissertation is not accelerated and depends predominantly on the amount of time a student can commit to the research and writing. In addition, the curriculum may be 100 percent online, but students will still have to perform a few short residencies during the dissertation process. These are usually little more than a long weekend of a week long.
