What is a PhD?
PhD stands for Doctor of Philosophy, which can confuse many people. You can actually get a PhD in many different fields other than philosophy. You can earn your PhD in history, English, engineering, and economics, just to name a few.
What is an Accelerated PhD?
Accelerated PhD programs are typically offered online.
All of the requirements with a traditional program, such as coursework, research, and a dissertation are also required in an online program. The main difference is that online courses are, by nature, accelerated.
Online universities do not adhere to the traditional academic calendar year. The quarters are typically 6-8 weeks long with the next quarter starting directly after the previous. This allows you to complete the coursework section of the curriculum at a faster rate.

With a PhD, most graduates go on to become university professors. However, they will only spend part of their time will be teaching.
