PhD in Business Administration

A PhD in business administration focuses predominantly on preparing students for research and academia careers. As with all PhD programs, students must take a series of courses, either online or campus based. In addition, a dissertation or a published piece of work in a professional journal is a requirement.

A typical PhD program will take four or more years to complete depending on how much time a student can commit to their studies. Some of the online programs may allow students to earn their degree faster. Programs generally consist of 16-25 courses, such as quantitative methods of research, financial theory, data analysis, and statistics. The particulars of a program will vary by university.

If you are wanting to stay in the business world rather than enter into academia or research, your other doctorate level option is the DBA. The DBA is similar in nature and has many of the same requirements as the PhD. The main difference is that rather than learning about the research to create new theory, existing theory is applied to problems in the business world.

Depending on the road you wish to take in your career, you are certain to be able to find a doctorate program that fits your needs. There are numerous online and traditional programs, many of which are holding enrollment now.
