Online PhD Programs in Business

Depending on your ultimate career goal, there are two different paths you can take with a doctorate in business. A traditional PhD will prepare you for a career in research or academia. However, if your goal is to be in the corporate world as an executive or consultant, then you may want to consider earning your Doctor of Business Administration (DBA). This is considered a professional degree similar to that of a Juris Doctorate for a lawyer.

Both degree programs are quite similar in their coursework. Courses will be 100 percent online and include between 60-100 credit hours of classes depending on the university. Classes will vary by program but may include globalization, ethics, and marketing.

After all of the coursework is completed and a comprehensive exam is passed, you will move on to the dissertation portion of the program. The dissertations may have slightly different focuses depending on whether you are enrolled in a PhD or DBA program. Both require that the findings be defended in front of a university committee.

Online courses are great for those busy professionals that would otherwise not have time to devote to a PhD program.
