Online Doctoral Degree in Education

Getting an Online Doctoral Degree in Education… Who should consider it?
It’s well and good to say that a PhD or a doctoral degree is the “highest” level of degree, but what does that really mean?  That is, what does an online doctoral degree in education actually translate into, in terms of career, in terms of opportunities… ?

In certain fields, getting your doctorate is something you do, more or less, because you want to be involved in research and there’s some critical issue in your field that you want to address.  In these fields, getting your PhD isn’t about higher pay, or more job opportunities, necessarily.  But what about your online doctoral degree in education?

Well, on the one hand getting an online doctoral degree in education fulfills a requirement for more and higher positions in the field than a comparable degree is in some other fields.  After all, it only makes sense that higher education matters in the field of, well, education, right?

On the other hand, that’s not a fact that’s lost on many education professionals–so there are more PhDs in this field than in many others.  If you think that, for example, getting your online doctoral degree in education is going to guarantee you a job teaching at that big state college, or that exclusive private school, you might have another thing coming.

However, if you have good understanding of the competition for the type of position you want, and know that you’d have a shot with a PhD, then getting your degree online may well be the choice to make.  Like if you live in a small county, and would like a shot at a principal or assistant principal position, or if you’d like a to be a curriculum developer in an urban area.  In these types of jobs, an online doctoral degree in education can be a real asset.
