Online PhD in Business
What is an Online PhD in Business?
As the recession continues, more and more MBA holders are facing layoffs, pay cuts, and other types of job insecurity. New business graduates are having a hard time finding jobs at all. This has led to a surge in the number of business degree holders opting to pursue a PhD in a business related topic.
Getting a PhD in business gives you the opportunity to find jobs outside of the corporate boardroom. PhD holders are considered qualified for careers in higher education–as professors, for example–and research. An online PhD in business may be your best bet if you decide to go this route. Finding a PhD program with an advisor that has experience in your chosen specialty, or even an interest in it, can be hard considering the limits of most PhD programs. But with an online PhD in business, you won’t be limited to programs that are within driving distance–you’ll have many, many more options from which to choose.
A PhD might be a great career move, but it’s not one that comes without some sacrifice, and a lot of personal and professional investment. Because a PhD may take five to seven years to complete, your online PhD in business is a major commitment. And PhD study is known for being consuming. If you’re already established in a successful business career, you may want to try and stick out the recession.
But for those who fear being laid off, or who are having difficulty finding a job at all with only an MBA, getting an online PhD in business may be the best route if you don’t want to change career fields. Job prospects for those looking to become professors in business related subjects are excellent; there is an almost chronic shortage of business PhD holders.
